Hello, I am Lu Ann Carey, I teach Agriculture at Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tennessee. I have been teaching agriculture most of my life but only 15 years in a high school setting. For you see, I love to teach, whether to young adults, young children, teenagers or older adults. I am fascinated with learning. My father, John Gilliland, who grew peaches for most of his life and still runs a fruit truck, taught me the value of continual mental creativity "dreaming" as he calls it and learning new ideas. He is 84 years old and still works to offer fresh fruit to his community. If he had it his way every person in the State of Tennessee could purchase tree-ripe peaches. Last year in October I went to a community grant meeting for teachers. I had no idea that I would actually pursue writing a grant but as usual I wanted to learn more about it. After the meeting I decided "why not", what do I have to loose except a few hours of my time. As I began to pursue my ideas I realized quickly how consumed I became in the actual process. Even if my grant was not selected I was learning so much about my passion. My passion of "Sustainable Gardening and Horticulture".
